Eligibility:
- be in a genuine relationship with your spouse or de facto partner who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen
- have your spouse or de facto partner sponsor you
- be outside Australia when you apply
- not had a permit cancelled or an application refused
- be outside Australia when you apply
- have a sponsor
- be the right age

PROSPECTIVE MARRIAGE
Stay: Between 9 and 15 months from date of grant
What it lets you do:
- stay in Australia for between 9 and 15 months from date of grant
- work and study in Australia
- travel to and from Australia as many times as you want
Eligibility:
- be 18 years old or older
- have a sponsor who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen
- intend to marry your prospective spouse before the period ends
- not had a permit cancelled or an application refused
- be outside Australia when you apply
- have a sponsor
- meet relationship requirements

- meet the character requirement
PARENT
Stay: Permanently
What it lets you do:
- migrate to Australia as a permanent resident
- work and study in Australia
- sponsor relatives to come to Australia
- apply for access to Australia’s public health care scheme, Medicare
- apply for Australian citizenship if eligible
- travel to and from Australia as many times as needed
Eligibility:
- have an eligible child who is a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen
- not have already applied for or hold a Sponsored Parent (Temporary) when applying
- have a sponsor
- meet the balance-of-family test
- have assurance of support
- meet the health requirement
- meet the character requirement
- have health insurance
CONTRIBUTORY PARENT [TEMPORARY]
Stay: 2 years
What it lets you do:
- live in Australia for up to 2 years
- work and study in Australia
- apply for a permanent Contributory Parent
- apply for access to Australia’s public health care scheme, Medicare
Eligibility:
- be sponsored by an eligible child who is a settled Australian citizen, Australian Permanent resident or Eligible New Zealand citizen
- meet the balance-of-family test
- meet all conditions and follow Australian law
- not have already applied for or hold a Sponsored Parent (Temporary)
- have a sponsor
- meet the health requirement
- meet the character requirement
CONTRIBUTORY PARENT [PERMANENT]
Stay: Permanently
What it lets you do:
- move to or stay in Australia as a permanent resident
- sponsor eligible family members to come to Australia
- apply for Australian citizenship, if eligible
- work and study in Australia
- apply for a permanent Contributory Parent
- apply for access to Australia’s public health care scheme, Medicare
Eligibility:
- be sponsored by an eligible child who is a settled Australian citizen, Australian Permanent resident or Eligible New Zealand citizen
- not have already applied for or hold a Sponsored Parent (Temporary)
- have an Assurance of Support
- meet the balance-of-family test
- meet the health requirement
- meet the character requirement
- have health insurance
CHILD
Stay: Permanently

Eligibility:
- be a dependent child of a parent who is an Australian citizen, eligible New Zealand citizen or holder of an Australian permanent resident status
- be under 18 years, a full-time student aged over 18 and under 25 and financially dependent on the parent, or over 18 and unable to work due to a disability
- be single and dependent on the parent
- be outside Australia when the application is made
- have a sponsor
- meet the health requirement
- meet the character requirement
DEPENDENT CHILD
Stay: Temporarily, until the permanent resident application of the parent of the child has been decided

- be a dependent child of the premit-holdingparent
- be sponsored by the nominator or sponsor of the permit-holding parent
- be under 18 years, a full-time student aged over 18 and under 25 and financially dependent on the parent, or over 18 and unable to work due to a disability
